Amongst all of the old nails, bolts and rusty cans that we found today was this one interesting item...

A bit of history on the area we were detecting..It is the Cariboo Gold Rush area of the 1860's of British Columbia and the old original wagon trail from Stanley over the pass to Richfield and Barkerville. We were in Stanley (Mainly all over grown now) There was a stable population of Chinese and Stanley like so many gold rush towns had its Chinatown.

This item is green in color and is encrusted with both white and red-brown crossion. It appears it has been broken. There are character symbols of some sort inside a horseshoe circle which under the microscope looks like it is hand carved. Any ideas, suggestions are appreciated. Thanks....

That logo reminds me of the logo of the International Harvester Corporation from the early part of the 20th century. I can't fathom what it might have been part of, however.

Google " IHC logo" for several examples of what I'm talking about.

pls.....I think you hit the nail right on the head with International Harvester..

I am going to contact the IH Collection in Wisconsin and see if they know what this is and what piece of equipment it is from..

I have a feeling this may be an early piece with an early logo..

Thanks again for your help...

Looks like some kind of brace, like on a piece of IHC farm equipment, that failed under stress and then hit the dirt, only to be discovered a century later by a guy swinging a metal detector. If it only could talk ...
