This hobby "metal detecting" really irritates me. I dug for an hour on ONE hole today and I never found what exactly I was going to find. Turns out this is not my sport or hobby because after an hour I gave up and went home..

If your detector beeped, it found metal the size of a pencil lead or larger. If you don't have a discriminator mode, you'll waste a lot of time digging pop tabs and rusty nails (or zinc-coated roofing nails, which are easy to find but frustrating as they tend to register as possible nickels or cents). And some of those metal objects will be about the size of a fingernail and the same color as red dirt - a real challenge to pick out. Also, if two objects are an inch or two apart, your detector may be zeroing in on one or the other. Yep, patience is definitely a virtue when it comes to metal detecting!
