After searching on and off for MONTHS, Googling, etc. looks like I might have found a site and forum to get some info I've been looking for for a long time. I inherited a long time ago many sets of proof and uncirculated books of FAO(Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations)coins and medals. To make a long story short, I have eight(8) 22mm, 22kt,8+grams each Gold medals. The medals consist of Olave Baden Powell, Angela Christian, Indira Gandhi, Coretta Scott King, Sophia Loren, Sonya Navas, Attiya Inayatullah, and Matsuyo Yamamoto. I have researched, with limited success, to find the mintage numbers on these jewels. I know from that research that they are very, very rare with mintages somewhere below a 1000-worldwide, and have never seen any for sale on ebay,(of which I'm a seller & buyer=sgorem1949. If anyone out there could steer me in the right direction for information, I would appreciate it. I've dawdled with the idea of sending them to NGC for certification, either documented for what they are, or just plain bullion. Thanks in advance, sgore...

Hello

I used to be in charge of the FAO Money and Medal Programme before I retired a couple of years ago.

These medals were issued before my time, however I should have some documentation somewhere which I will try to dig out.

Meantime here is a good site (not an official FAO site despite its name) where you can find some information about the medals.

I have managed to find the first catalogue of Ceres medals produced in 1975 and I have scanned in a number of pages which should answer your questions.
I have also scanned in the sovereign panel collection which comprised all the gold medals together with a silver version.

Hello Dmitry

Therre is no official current catalogue of FOA coins.

I have an out of date german Catalogue that I could possibly share with you.

Unfortunately there is nobody at FAO dealing with FAO coins now. As a matter of fact FAO have sold all their stock of coins and as far as I know do not intend to continue their coin Programme.

I have a number of duplicates of FAO coins in my own collection and perhaps I can help you with some.

Unfortunately Your Email address is not available on the site (I believe that you need 50 posts before you can display it). You could of course send me an Email.

And there is a good reason for that. I see no point in any new members needing to e-mail anyone on the forum except to buy/sell/or trade. If you'd like to discuss coins by all means do it here. Outside of that just sit back and enjoy the forum. There are far too many scammers and bots lurking the internet for us to condone members posting their e-mail addresses.

Hello Mr Harold! There are coins of the Vatican that collectors refer to coins FAO. However, in Krause catalog, these coins are not noted as a series of FAO.
Such as KM # 241 500 Lire. How are they classified?

Hello Mr. Harold.
These coins belong to the series of FAO? (You did not mention them)
Regards, Dmitry.

Dear Mr Harold!
In the catalog of Krause coin:
- Vatican City 1984 10 Lira Aluminum Y # 177
- Vatican City 1992 10 Lira Aluminum Y # 236 - are not the FAO.
Are there any documents on which can accurately determine the membership of the coins to a series of FAO?

Hello Dmio

Although Krause lists these coins as FAO series, I have found nothing in the FAO coin records showing these to be FAO coins.

Unfortunately there is no longer anybody at the FAO coin Programme who was there in the early 70's.

I do have the original sale files of FAO and these coins are not on the list.
