Hello, I have been working on putting a cent collection together through circulation and roll hunting. I have all the Lincoln Memorial Cents, except for the 1982-D Zinc large date. Is this a particularly rare variety? I think I have searched through $100+ and still can't find one. If I am just unlucky, I am OK with that - I am filling out the wheat cents, so I will keep looking anyway. I am just curious how hard it should be to find this one.
Thanks
JP

It was the last one my older son found in filling out his LMC collection, and it's the last hole I have, too. That said, neither of my sons (or the neighbor girl) spent all that long looking for one. I haven't been looking all that long myself, either. I'd say they are pretty common, just less common than the other '82 varieties.

Yeah, they're fairly common. The hard part is finding one without gas bubbles that are struck halfway decent.

I have found 2 and I have searched maybe 25-30 rolls so far. I don't search rolls all that often.

I just went over my parents Penny jar I brought from Pittsburgh. I found most Large date, and 4 Small date. Please go to my New Topic regarding 1982 Copper and Zinc.

Thanks for all the replies. I live on the East Coast, so I see a lot more P coins than D. I am not surprised that the 82 zinc Ds are the hardest to find - might be fewer made and they have had the longest chance to rot. I'll just keep searching ....

I think both of the small dates are hard to find in a high grade

I checked my collection, I have almost everything except 1982D. Since I am here in California, I think, I have a better chance to get it. It is a challenge for me, I'm going to start Penny roll hunting. I will let you know the result.

I found my '82-D zinc large date the other day. It finished off my LMC set--something I never did when I was a kid and there were only 17 years of them!
