Hi,

First coin is a Peso dated 1970, Krause says there is a wide and a narrow date. Can anyone let me know which one I have?

Second is a 25 Centavos dated 1966. My catalog says there are both a closed beak and an open beak. Again...which do I have?

And I would appreciate opinions on grades.
Thanks,

Looks like 1970 narrow date (google search: Mexico Un Peso KM460 Type Identifier for a helpful page)

Can't find comparative photos of the 1966 (yet)

Thanks Nazarene, I found the page you mentioned. The number one on my coin has a square top versus the beveled top so I'm leaning towards the wide date right now.
On the 25 Centavos, I see the end of the lower beak showing past the snake, which I do not see on any of the other coins that I have.

I am far from an expert and quite new to collecting, so maybe someone with more knowledge can be of more help. I was noticing the shape of the field between the 7 and the 0. It seemed more like what I saw in the narow date photo on that web page. But that's about all I was going on.

LOL!...you have the same chance of being right as I do! I guess this is the hard part of joining the 'Dark side'; the lack of Reference material. I have the Red Book for US coinage and a copy of Charlton's for Canadian, neither is perfect but better for details then Krause. For all other countries I rely on the Internet and this forum along with an catalog by R.S. Yeoman, dated around 1964. The next country with the largest number of coin I own is Italy so that is where I plan on investing in some kind of book. (suggestions anyone?) It will be a while before I buy something to catalog the dozen or so Mexican coins I currently have. But hey, if nothing else I can make a notation on my spreadsheet for further investigation and keep looking.

I found this on ebay.... http://cgi.ebay.com/MEXICO-1966-OPE...400128611036 Sorry...tried to link the site but didn't work.

So hoping that this seller knows what they have; I will consider the 1966 an open beak variety.
