how do I tell the difference between a 76-s Washington and a 76-s Silver Washington?

An uncirculated 1976-S will always be silver. Weight is not even very accurate to differentiate between silver and CuNi proofs- the tolerances overlap(0.08g difference with tolerances of +/-0.1g). The best method would be the tissue test.

interesting. I'll try that tonight or tomorrow. I think I messed up today..I bought a 1976-S Washington because I thought the 76-S was the silver version..I didn't know there was a 76-S and a 76-S Silver Washington. I guess we'll find out soon enough.

looks like my buy is silver! I just did the silver test. wow..this test is crazy! I just tried it with 3 silver washington's and 2 that are clad...the silver's had a dark rim and the rest of the surface was white where the entire clad surface was dark!
