My wife just showed me a coin that does not look official that we have had for a while. It is described here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freedo...ilver_Dollar
It looks different than the one in the picture of the wiki article. The picture in the article makes the Statue of Liberty at least 4 times larger. It is pretty to see but I feel it might be some scam. I do not know where we got it though.
Is this a scam that a relative might have fallen for that anyone knows of?

It has about $0.03 worth of silver in it. It's not worth more then a buck to a normal collector. There were dozens of different kinds of "commemoratives" minted by private companies.

yup, scam... also, beware the norfed dollars, and stuff from "Private Mints", Example: The Franklin Mint... Knowledge IS Power my friend..
