Hi all,

I am wanting to find out if it is generally known that Canada had the 1992 100th Anniversary of the Modern Olympics $15 silver and $175 gold proof coinage minted in Australia by the Royal Australian Mint from 1991-92 through to 1996-97? [:0]

I have copies of the RAM Annual Reports that reveal the production of the three coins in this IOC commemorative coin program. From the records it would appear RAM produce the whole mintage for each of the three Canadian coins.

If anyone has a set or individual coins, they might like to haul them out and check the Certificate to see if there is any mention of them being minted by the Royal Australian Mint in Canberra.

Wayne.

Hummm, no responses. I even sent an email to Bill Cross editor of Charlton Catalogue whose only response was "all coins in catalogue are from RCM unless otherwise stated". This was inspite of the fact that I sent him the following information from the Royal Australian Mint's Annual Reports.

According to the Annual Reports from 1991-92 to 1996-97, the RAM minted:

Report 1991-92 Proof & Special Coin Production - Canada
1992 $15 silver proof - 38,999 (theme not given [Generation?])
1992 $15 silver proof - 41,119 (theme not given [Pole, Rings, Skater?])
1992 $150 gold proof - 20,331 (theme not given [Olympic Flame])

Report 1992-93 Proof & Special Coin Production - Canada
1992 $15 silver proof, Generation - 10,872
1992 $15 silver proof, Pole, Rings, Skater - 12,020
1992 $150 gold proof, Olympic Flame - 9,857

Report 1993-94 Proof & Special Coin Production
1992 3 Coin Gold and Silver IOC Set in 3 Coin Leatherette Case - 36 pieces - 12 sets
Report 1993-94 Proof & Special Coin Production - Canada
1992 $15 proof silver, Generation - 650
1992 $15 proof silver, Pole, Rings and Skater - 100

Report 1994-95 Proof & Special Coin Production
1992 3 Coin Gold and Silver IOC Set in 3 Coin Leatherette Case - 30 pieces - 10 sets
1992 $200* (sic) Proof, Gold, IOC, Olympic Flame in single Coin Leatherette Case - 8

Report 1995-96 Proof & Special Coin Production
1992 IOC Coin, Gold, Olympic Flame - 3
1992 IOC Coin, Silver, Generations - 1,010
1992 IOC Coin, Silver, Pole, Rings and Skater - 250
1992 IOC Coin, Gold, Olympic Flame in single Coin Leatherette Case - 1
1992 IOC 3 Coin Gold and Silver Set in 3 Coin Leatherette Case - 33 pieces - 11 sets
1992 IOC 3 Coin Gold and Silver Set in 15 Coin Leatherette Case - 75 pieces - 25 sets

Report 1996-97 Proof & Special Coin Production
1992 IOC Coin Proof, Silver, Pole, Rings and Skater - 409
It appears they also produced and packaged:
IOC 10 Coin Silver Set in 10 Coin Leatherette Case - 8 sets
IOC 5 Coin Gold Set in 5 Coin Leatherette Case - 2 sets

* should have read $175

So can anyone check the Certificate with any of these coins' sets and see if the Royal Australian Mint is given as minting the coins?

Have you inquired at the Royal Canadian Mint? Sorry I don't have any of the sets to look at.
