OK! I know its not PMD because the extra metal raising above the letter in the O of ONE, and the questioning field around it is also raise above the plain.

The missing star and part of the "U" in United has completely disappeared and no tampering seem present, so what would cause this error and what terminology would this be called?

Would you call this die blockage? Some foreign matter got in the way?
My quest continues looking for error Mercury dime, this is becoming a hazardous interest! LOL!
Thanks all for helping me out in the past and present.

I think this is PMD. The extra metal over the O of ONE is from a shearing action when something came across the O on an angle pushing the metal to the top of the letter. Notice how the O is weaker before the blob. The same thing happened to the "U" in UNITED removing over half of it and the star between the O and the U. That's what the other blobs are from. This damage happened a long time ago and has since worn down to look like it belongs there.

Pyrbob,

I see what you mean and it could happen that way because of aging, and had hidden the flaws over time.
