MS-65 RD, lots of die polish lines, quite typical.

How is one to discern from cleaning marks and legitimate die polish marks?

Stunet, die polish marks are raised, and will go right up to the edge of devices, and often continue on the other side of the device . And if the device is a letter or number, you can also see the lines continue in the middle of those devices. For example, on the reverse, see how the horizontal lines continue on the fields through the word "ONE".

All kinds of die cracks, chips, lamination, polish lines, etc. are common to the 50's cents. The real trick is find quality pieces WITHOUT those issues.

speaking up: I think that coin has way too many bag marks and rim dings for 65...I also think there are circulation scratches on it.
I'd say 62; push to 63.

Ya, I'm a MS-63 guy on this one. The eye appeal is not there with all the things going on. Jim

Appears to be wear on the cheek. That combine with the numerous bag marks and scratches would put it at AU-58 for me.

Sorry to say it....but you guys are wrong. LOL I can tell from the pictures this coin has blazing luster and the hits are consistent with at least an MS-64 coin. However, luster goes a LONG way in the hands of a grader, no doubt in my mind this would come back 65.

It wouldn't be worth grading. My general rule is the coin must be worth more than $150 or so otherwise you're throwing your money away.
