Can't afford $20,000 or more for one of these coveted coins? Perhaps this one will suit you just fine. It's a Proof-58 of the Snow-9 having inadvertantly been placed into circulation, perhaps by a child of the wealthy collector who obtained this when restruck by the Mint 1n 1859 or 1860.The Mint restruck this date dueto intense demand, and often traded one or more for coins needed in the Mint's cabinet. It's a Snow 9 with centering dot and recut date, the most common of the 1856 restrike varieties. Has a streak of deeper toning on obverse due to improper alloy mix in the planchet.
