Curious (to me) is the lack of detail on the reverse of this quarter....nary a single line on the horse or rider.

Its field is very plain, yes. Perhaps that's why it's so pretty in high-grades. It's almost like a logo for cigarettes.

There are no lines on the horse or rider because that is how the coin was designed. It is basically a sillhouette of the horse and rider, and is not supposed to show any detail there. I think it looks kinda boring personally.

For all the detail in the other State Quarters, I was surprised at this design.

Chuckster: Could you post a wider shot of the last one. I could add them to this image for my educational files. Thanks.

The Bucking Horse and Rider silhouette is a registered trademark of Wyoming and is ubiquitous throughout the state. You will find it on everything from Wyoming license plates to the logo for the University of Wyoming. The design dates to at least WWI when it was an insignia patch worn by Wyoming National Guard troops in Europe. The quarter design was chosen by Wyoming citizens as the best and most recognized representation of their state.
