Poll Question
what do you perfer when taken your photos. A mini tripod or a photo copy stand. I am looking at buying one and I am not sure what you guys found beter to use when phorographing your coin.don't want to buy something twice.
Right no I just use a regular size tripod one but put it close to the counter and shot it that way but it is hard to get the right lighting doing it that way so is a mini tripod best or a copy stand. Also my camera attached on the lense so I am not sure if that would make a differnce.have a old digital sony f505

Well, You could get Verticle Tripods.

Where it Stands straight up and your camera lens is facing down which would be a "better" and accurate way of taking the picture of whatever.

Hey dj,

I could not answer your post because what I use was not on your poll. I use a 5-6 year old Sony DSC-F55 2.1 mega pix cyber-shot digital camera which has the macro mode. I also use a regular, telescopic professional heavy duty tripod which I have had for years when I bought it to use with my old heavy Nikon. I also use a blue 60 watt bulb which both GE & Philips sell. NO! flash. Below is a website that might help and give ya some tips for other ways of taking pics of coins etc..

http://www.tabletopstudio.com/docum...tography.htm

Maybe that will give ya tips and help answer some of your questions. There is another site I went to to learn, but I can't find the url at the moment, when I find it I will pass that on to ya also--

dj, I'm just getting back into coin photography after an absence of several months and after purchasing (in April) a new Canon 2S-IS to replace my totally insufficient (for coins) Kodak DX2500. (Hence, the late date of this response compared with the thread's original post date.)

I immediately learned that I needed something to hold the camera steady and purchased a small collapsible tripod at Walmart (less than 20 bucks). The thing collapses down to about 9", so fits into my camera bag (actually, a Wally World canvas fishing bag) very nicely. It is very slender, won't hold a lot of weight, but even extended out to its full size/length (about 4") seems just what I need for multiple-use photography.
