Anything struck after 1780 is considered a re-strike. I have a re-strike from 1815 so it can still be an older coin. Go to the link that turtleoverhead posted to see what variety your coin is.

Fascinating subject. I have spent last few hours trying to identify which variety my coin is and I think that I have narrowed it down to between H49a and H70 which means I think that it is quite a late one.

I will do some more research tomorrow
