Hi,

Just wondering if anybody else collects the proof Presidential dollars series in PCGS plastic. I know... buy the coin not the holder, but in this particular case, I find the PCGS holders very attractive and add to the overall coin. I'm referring to their signature series where they display a portrait of the president and their signature. Here is an example on somebody's registry set (not mine): http://www.pcgs.com/setregistry/pub...aspx?s=58474

Personally, I buy them in PCGS PR69 DCAM. The PR70 coins go for about 10 - 20 times the cost of a PR69 coin and are WAY overpriced in my opinion. With some patience the PR69s can be had for about $6 each on ebay, which I feel is a very reasonable premium considering the coins go for about $4 each from the mint.

Thanks,
RKP

I'm only making a regular Proof album of these.....I "might" consider adding the P&D Satins, since I'll have them from broken sets...but this is as far as I'm going to go with the Presidential dollars.
I'm only "mildly" interested in these really, but I do think it would be impressive to do what you're doing with them ! ...
My theory in general is, if it's affordable for you, then you should make the best set you can buy while you're building it.
I can't wait to see the pics of yours when the series is finally done ! ....

Eaglefoot,

I think an album of the Proof presidentials would look amazing and I thought about doing this myself. But once I saw the nice looking portraits on the PCGS holders I was hooked. The business strike is also nice but the cameo contrast on the bronze colored coins looks very cool in my opinion. The only down side is that you have to wait another 7 or so years until the series is complete :(

Very interesting coins.

I have the Dansco set started, P, D and proofs. I have been putting just the satin finish in with the proofs and I have to say I like how it looks.

I will say that I agree in the special slab they do look nice, and if you are finding them at $6 a pop, then I think you will have a nice set when you are done.

I have just started a Registry set of PCGS Lincoln Memorial Proofs two weeks ago. I am restricting to PR69DCAM as I find PR70 way out of line for me. My set can be viewed on the PCGS site set registry under the name "edgman". I look over ebay every day very thoroughly. Though I am into Lincoln proofs sometimes I pick up a few other PCGS coins along the way. Just got a 2007 set of the 5 (no State Quarters) proof coins in PR69DCAM for 15.95 w/free shipping. Guy must be crazy or really needed cash. I just buy up any PCGS slabs that are real good bargain. Have about 16 Presidential coins in PR69 with 3 or 4 PR68's. 3 weeks ago I didnt know what a "Registry Set" was until the members here explained it to me.

Keep looking.

I have a complete set, to date, of Signature Presidential dollars. Like you, I like the holder but have paid at least $40 per set per year in PR69DCAM.
I also have a set of First Strike PCGS PR69DCAM.

I completed a set of State and Territorial Quarters both Clad and Silver in Flag Holders because I liked the holder :-)

Now am working on National Parks, Clad and Silver but don't care for Flag holder so am collecting First Strike
