I found these south of Nashville. The lady proudly proclaimed that they were play money for children. I've seen a number of fractional coins and tokens but none with the denomination presented as 1/2. The denomination was always vertically presented as 1 over 2 with a horizontal divisor. They weigh 0.8g, are 3.5cm in diameter, and approximately 0.8mm thick. Are these real?

My calculations give a density of about 1/4 that a true gold coin would have. Also, The bear was not in the design of Cali fractional gold coins, so they are in my opinion, play money.

Any coin displaying a bear is not genuine period California gold.
Your token is seen towards the bottom of the page http://www.calgoldcoin.com/bears.htm
