I'm writing this for the dummies like myself, that may find this in the search feature in years to come. I was reading an article last night about how rare the Botanic Gardens set has become with that special nickel. The article also mentioned that the set is worth over $200 and poised to increase in the future. So of course I start looking for this 1997 set. Unfortunately the article did not show a picture of the set. Searching freebay, I find the 1997 Botanic Gardens set for $95 on a buy it now! I'm so excited, I can't contain myself. I see that he had another one available as well, so I sent him an email to see if he would sell me that one as well and just throw it in with the other. I have this tendency to miss out on stuff so I was stoked at the good luck I was having. That is, until I was reading up on more information about the set. This article had a photo. OMG! Hold on. That doesn't look like my set! In fact, the set I purchased was the 1997 Botanic Garden Prestige set. Sigh........ I of course race to the greysheet. Turns out it was shown at $95 retail. It just really pays to remember to take things slow and do the homework. I did end up finding the Botanic Gardens actual set for $210. Oh well. If anyone has any beachfront property in Iraq, let me know!

Maybe you can work it out with the seller. Did you pay already? If so maybe you can return them? If you paid with Paypal you have a decent chance.

I received a paypal invoice from the seller tonight for the second set at $95 so I wrote back to tell him what happened. I told him I wouldn't be buying the second set but since I didn't already have this set and it was my fault, I just went ahead and paid for the one set. He had to unpack the second set but he was okay with that. Last night I was so angry, I had prepared a nasty email and was ready to push the send button. I took a moment to again make sure I was correct. (At 45, I have semi-learned to stop for at least 5 minutes!) The title of this auction was, "1997 Prestige Proof Set Botanic Gardens US Mint". When I looked at the photos of the item, nowhere on the set does it read Botanic Gardens. Then I looked at a photo of the COA and it read, "1997 United States Botanic Garden Commemorative Coin." I guess that COA refers to the commemorative dollar in the set. I still felt it was a little deceiving but it was more my stupidity then his deceit. Cheers! Another lesson learned. If interested the auction was http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...TRK:MEWNX:IT

Botanic Gardens might just be a good keyword to use but it does say Prestige set first. He shouldn't get too upset since he was selling the second set outside of ebay and could have gotten in trouble for fee avoidance. That taking time out before taking action is a great lesson to learn. I still fail verbally with those that are closest to me. I am hoping that goes away before I hit 55. By the way, Proof should also be a tip off. Your Botanical low mintage Jefferson nickel is an uncirculated special mint set coin with a sharp proof-like matte or satin finish, much like the satin US mint sets they are and have been recently producing. Your $210.00 set should come in a green folder with an UNC Botanical dollar and a Federal Reserve note and the 1997 satin nickel with the low mintage of 25,000.

I might be able to arrange for you to purchase a few acres along the 36 mile stretch of coastline between Kuwait and Iran cheap. The closer to Iran the cheaper it is. Just kidding Johnstac, but Iraq does have beach front property and I really hope that you did not buy those sets.

johnstac, You paid a decent price for that set if you only knew how much I paid for mine.

Next just make sure how much is the price you are looking for.

Johnstac, It's not really your fault, you can blame it on the 90's US Mint marketing pros, who really found six of one and half dozen of the other ways to market essentially the same coin in different sheep's clothing making for a spectacular miss, such as the frosted proof nickel in the Botanic Garden Coins and Currency set, when this commem was also sold individually and in the Prestige set for the year. Marketeers weren't just interested in selling coins, but selling an idea across multiple age groups, thus accounting for the multiplicity of packaging options generally confusing buyers to this day. Good idea to do your homework before laying out coin and having the current year's Red Book handy is another. Good call otherwise!
