Hmmmmm? Probably set in a bezel at one time.

That's a wild little specimen... ... even if it is PMD, it's definately a conversation piece...

Here's a '57-D that looks similar that went for $82. Don't know about all that.

Scobby; This looks like a collar clash. I have a 1995 Washington quarter that was attributed by Mike Diamond as a collar clash. I'm not familiar as to how its caused, but that's what it's called. My quarter is not as pronounced and dramatic as your coin but it looks kinda the same with the beads etc. Cool looking Wheatie! Lets see what Mr Diamond thinks. Here are 2 pics of my 95 quarter.

I remember that thread, chuckster. And if this were a dime or something, I would have thought out of collar strike/clash, too. But, where would reeding come from on a Lincoln? The collar wouldn't be reeded, would it? I'm wondering what years we struck coins for other countries that had reeded edges in the 50's (if any). Otherwise, I would think it has to be post mint. As far as the bezel scenario, wouldn't there be other tell-tale signs? Just speculating and still .

Scobby: Now you got me stumped with the reeding on this coin What is the indentation on the top of the coin by the US? Maybe this was set in a bezel at one time like vermontensium stated and that's the depression? Hopefully, the experts will be around soon and then we'll know what this is.

Quote: What is the indentation on the top of the coin by the US? That's the thing. I would think there would be indentions on 4 opposite corners, or extra "metal" from a bezel. I'm sure someone has the answer. But for now, I'm still .

I'm still wondering about the person that spent $82 for one of these.

Both cents are ex-encased cents. They were struck into a ring of aluminum for a "good luck" penny. The person who bought the 1957D on ebay for $80+ got ripped royally. These are not errors and have no premium value. They are considered "damaged".
