The coin is REAL in my opinion. All of the elements I see in the picture are natural for a real coin of that year. This is a late Republic issue made with Standardized dies. These were export coins made as bullion items. They did not circulate in Mexico. All of these hubs and dies were prepared in the die shop at Mexico City so deviation is limited to hub variations.
The coin should have (I think I see them) Dragon's teeth extending downward from the cap on both sides of the central downward ray. This anti-counterfeiting device was added to Mo coins in 1867. The other branch mints adopted the practice at various later dates when they began to use Mo prepared dies. It was not until 1887 that EVERY branch mint started using Standardized dies.
The problem with Krause is that it is a very general reference. The 8R series is so complicated with designs changing so quickly that it does in fact take an entire book to show pictures of every variety made.
