Hello all I found this roll hunting today... I'm sure someone knows what it is. It appears to have additional metal on it like a blob and does not appear to be PMD. Worth keeping to trade as I dont collect errors?

Pic is just a quick scan... let me know if a better pic is worth my time if it is just a common error.

It looks like it could be a Cud error, but I would need a better picture. The pros might not need a better shot, though. If that's what it is, Cud errors are very collectable.

That picture is all I need to know that it is a Cud, nice find There should also be a spot of weakness opposite the Cud on the reverse. Value would be $5-10.

There is a spot of weakness on the reverse, so it must be a Cud error... if you dont mind my asking, what is a Cud?

A Cud is a specific type of die break affecting the face and shank of a die and it is an indicator of a die near the point of failure. Since the shank of a die must be affected, all Cuds will emanate from the rim towards the center of the coin, anything else is a common die chip or a less-common interior die break. When the coin is struck, the planchet fills the void in the die and that is how you get a "blob" of metal. Since part of the obverse die is broken away, the two dies do not create a full opposing force against each other- that is the source of the opposite side weakness.

Nice! I also found a 1982 LMC with the same Cud on it. People call this one an atheist Cud, because it blocks out the word 'GOD'.

If you check on the reverse opposite the Cud you should see the weakness everyone is talking about. Here is an example to compare with:

Note the mark on the reverse at 6:00?

I just got The Cud Book by Thurman & Margolis. The 1983 is listed as LC-83-67.

The 1982 is listed as LC-82 LD-5 Cu.
