A friend of mine that I was visisting this past weekend sent me a note about a crack from rim to rim on the obverse. I am waiting for a picture or the coin itself if he can't produce a large enough picture. Here is a C&P from his mail:
On one 2001-P on the obverse there is what looks like a crack that extends from between the I and B in LIBERTY to the bottom of her shawl, rim-to-rim. The reverse is totally normal. I don't see any possible way this could be the result of damage to the finished coin. Die flaw? Uncommon, or in the millions?

Does anyone know of anything like that? I checked the CherryPickers Guide 4th Edition but nothing after 2000. nlp

Rim to rim die cracks do happen. I think they are really cool. Value-wise, it is usually worth a couple/few bucks. On a Sacagawea, I don't know.

An image might help on this one. Across the whole coin is worth a good premium. A short cut one would be a lot less. So an image would help.

False alarm. I think the excitement may have been brought on by the rolled up metal deposits like the one at the ear ring. It could have been scratched during the extraction process from the dies. nlp

It that raised? It looks like a scratch on the coin. The area at 6:00 shows that the area next to rim is not touched. So I'm seeing a line like from a blade cutting it. The line is straight and not irregular as a crack would be.

coop, it's not a raised line. The metal from a scrape plowed up in a few places and had my friend wondering. He sent it to me yesterday for a look see. nlp
