Hello all. Just wanted to get some opinions on whether I made an ok deal here or did I kind of go overboard?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...MEWN:IT&rd=1

I just needed this dime really bad, I have just felt like I have been in a rut lately on my Mercury collection and felt like I wasn't getting anywhere on it. Thanks for your time and opinions.

My first reply didn't come up, so I'll try again.
I think you paid too much, but I'm not an expert, wait for the pros to come along.

It has Full Split Bands. Hardly any marks in the fields on either side and not much wear. That was one of the things that prompted me to keep going until I got it. Hopefully it is not as dull as it appears in the auction pic though. Am hoping the 2x2 is causing most of this. I really did need it though. I am looking at purchasing a digital camera in the future so that I can post my own pics.

Hi Irish

The coin in the photo's looks like it is probly a Mint state dime, perhaps a 62 maybe 63 ,, If it is a full band dime (the Bottom center band looks a little funny in the pic ?) then you got a deal on the coin.

I would be interested in seeing pics of the coin once you have it in hand. Please post some in the coin grading forum .

I noticed the split bands also and they are clear and complete in the photo. Depending upon the luster, it could be in Mint State condition and if that's the case...the price is reasonable...if it comes back lacking luster then you may be looking at Extra Fine and then you paid too much. Let us all know how she looks when you get her home. Just from the sellers photo I would say it's going to be a toss up as to EF or low MS.

Thanks Rick and Debbie,

I knew I could count on a couple of Mercury dime collectors to chime in. I was thinking it was at least MS-62. I will post some pics when I get it. Try to anyway, will probably have to take pics with disposable digi camera and post them that way. I usually get all pics on a cd. My scanner does not do decent coin pics.

You are very welcome! I'm just a novice "grader", Metalman is much better than I am. I tend to grade too low or give a lot of room for mis-grading. If he says it's MS by the photos, then go with it and feel good about your purchase. I love Mercs but, most of mine are circulated Fine to EF. Let us know! In any case though, if you needed the coin and you're happy with your purchase - that's the bottom line!!!!!
