I just wanted some opinions on Air Tite holders. I have never used them before and wanted to know your opinions on them (the kind with the rings and the direct fit). Also, how do you usually store them?
Thanks!

I use airtites for all my coins. I use the ones without the rings as I was told over time the color of the ring will discolor the coin. I store them in a small fire proof safe inside my large fire proof safe.

I keep all of my silver Dollars in them. I use the ones with the black ring. I really like them and I have also used the ones with out the ring but prefer the ones with because of the added look to them. I have not found a really good way to store them yet. Though about the Airtite album they have but right now I just keep them in 3x3 coin pages I beleave theat is the size if not then they are 2 1/2 x 2 1/2 pages. the other way is I just put them in the bottom of my coin draw. I might try coin trays.

I'm leaning towards CoinEdge holders. They show the rim, there are album pages made for them, and they're much cheaper than Air Tites.

I guess that I'm just from the "old school". I only use air tites for those very special coins otherwise, I use 2x2's almost exclusively. If I were to use air tites for all of my coins, well...I'd have quite an investment in air tites alone. I'd rather spent the cash on coins!

I have not tried the coinedge holders but have seen them and I have to say I was impressed with the way they hold the coin, kinda looks like the coin is floating above the 2x2 holder

I decided it was time when Morgans started toning on my desk, in stapled 2x2's. I handle my coins a lot, as I'm constantly comparing errors, and some sit on my desk for a month at a time.

I like the airtites so much that I ordered over 100 from the factory where they are made in Arkansas.
Wish I had an answer about how to store them, but I still am not certain as to what's best.

I'm debating weather or not to bust open the plio film on the silver maple leafs and put them into air tites.

I have used just about everything that has been on the market in the last 30 years and prefer AIRTITES above all others. My motto is pretty much "Any coin worth protecting is worth an airtite". I have used 2X2 cardboard mylars for years and have never had any toning. Actually the toning occurs most in albums, even the Dansco Supreme, if the windows are allowed to slip down and air can enter around the edges of a silver coin. I finally moved a great number of silver coins back OUT of the albums to airtites. NDS76 I remove ALL silver coins from their plio film, as you call it, and place them in airtite holders. We, as collectors, really don't know what the plastic film was made of or where it was made so I take no chances. I will give you an excellent storage idea which I consider one of the cheapest, yet outstanding, cases I have ever stumbled on to! The old slide film metal cases which were made to hold slides for photography are slotted for the 2X2 slide. Well the cardboard coin holders are 2X2 as well and there is enough space between the slots to hold most any coin. I liked them so much I went on ebay and located 6 more in Florida a few years ago for about $4 each. They can also be found at flea markets and antique shops and are absolutely PERFECT for holding coins. They are also very compact and stackable and as I said, they are like a small metal suitcase and most will hold a considerable amount of 2X2 which can NOT slide around or rub against each other. Some of the later slide boxes had plastic inserts which are much different than the individual slotted boxes so I put the airtite holders on all coins that are stored in those boxes as the sections will hold about 6 airtites each. I prefer the slotted but really do LOVE the old slide boxes for coins.

I use airtites exclusively for my Mercs and Proof Lincolns,, they are very easy to display, and to store.
I use the red boxes from whitman to store them in the safe, and specimen cases to display them,,
I also keep a part of my collection in 2x2's and also store them in the red whitman boxes.

Which airtites would you recommend for silver maple leafs? How snug are the direct fit? Do they rattle in the holder? Are they scratch resistant? Where would you recommend buying them?

I'm not sure whether this is the correct thread, but could anyone please tell me whether the black Eagle Mount holders are still made?
