(What appears to be rub on the obverse is actually shine/reflection from my studio lights.)

Quick reply here .... home from 12 hours of work and many chores to do before work again tomorrow.

Absolutely fabulous example of this lovely coin .... the stern of Niuew Nederland is the high point of this design ..... and not only clean but also well struck.

This coin was treated well by the mint and collecting public ..... and gem coins in MS-65 and MS-66 grade are reasonably available.

IMHO this coin might earn a scary high grade at NGC or PCGS ..... the coin is clean of crud, strike is good, the fields are gorgeous clean, and I see very few minor bag hits.

I would not be surprised to see her come back from a TPG as MS66 ..... assuming original surfaces.

Numismedia FMV at MS66 is $860 .... in MS67 it is $2990.

Let us know what happens with that.

David

You're one hard-working man, David! Thanks again for your insights on this coin. I'm honestly gobsmacked by just how beautiful almost all of these commemorative designs are (Stone Mountain, I'm NOT looking at you).

The Morgans in the collection may be the "money" coins, but my heart is with the commems, for sure.

Now there is a word I need to learn how to use.

Hey ....... what happened to my Top-12 .....

Since you asked ..... show us some individual thread photos of the following coins ...... the toughest to find in MS of the US Classic Silver series:

1893 Isabella Quarter
1900 Lafayette Dollar
1915 Pan-Pacific Half
1921 Alabama Half
1921 Missouri Half
1922 Grant Half
1923 Monroe Half
1925 Vancouver Half
1926 Sesquicentennial Half
1927 Vermont Half
1928 Hawaiian Half
1935 Hudson Half

You have shown most of these .... still need a few.

Great stuff you have here .... and I hope you appreciate through education the great work your grandmother did to acquire such an outstanding collection.

Glad you are here with us New Mismatist ....

Okay, this coin has earned a "scary high grade".

92 - Cleaned

For a coin that's been in a closet for 60-plus years to be labeled "cleaned" is a bit perplexing, to say the least. Not to mention the fact that I can't find a single hairline on this coin.
