I'm thinking of adding a reverse proof 2006-P silver eagle but am having a hard time justifying the $200+ cost for one now. I don't stockpile silver but I have a few of the regular ASE proofs. I'd love to own the reverse proof AGE, but not for $3K+++! For that price, I'd go for a 2009 UHR double eagle...

I'd like to have a ASE reverse proof too but also haven't overcome the expense. But someday we'll be wishing we bought a dozen of them back when they were "only" $200. I've picked up 2 2006-W Burnished so far which I think have a similar but less dramatic potential.

The 2006 Reverse Proof ASE is a stunning coin. So different from looking at a regular proof. I got mine early on, in an NGC MS/PF 69 Multiholder 2006 Anniversary Set. I don't plan to break the set so I had no reason to get the separate holders.

One way to look at it (as I did with several of the coins I have purchased), would you have an easier time justifying $300?

Back in '02 or '03 I finally threw the money at me dealer for a BU set of ASE's in a Dansco. I told him I might as well do it now because I figure it's just gonna keep get more expensive. I paid about $170 for the set and have added to it each year as they are released. Look at the price of a set now!

Steve,
You make an excellent case. Thanks for the info about the NGC multiple holder, I was unaware these three coins are certified as such. I am going after one of the three coin sets, since the average seems to be just a $100 more than the reverse proof alone, and the other two coins are great companions to it.
Regards,
zb

I see them out there now and again. True enough, it turns out that the RP is the bulk of the price, so why not get the full set? Mine came with the orignal packaging as well, since that's the only way you can get the set certified as a 20th Anniversary Set, whether individually or in the multiholder. It had to be sent to NGC in the sealed Mint box, which NGC then opens and cracks the individual coins. That's the only way they can guarantee that all the coins came from the Anniversary set.

"Some people" would get just the RP, and add a regular 2006 Proof and regular 2006 Burnished and call it a 20th Anniversary Set. The TPG's were wise to that so they required the sealed Mint packaging.

Good Luck,

Steve

Ok I bit the bullet on this one and bid on and won an anniversary set in GPO packaging on ebay for $290 including shipping since I will separate the regular proof ASE and include it with the other ASE proofs I have. Can't do that with the NGC brick as much as I like them!
