Pictures are too small and light for me but I'll entertain you with my guesses from what I can see. 1865 AU53 1866 XF40/45 1867 AU50 weaker strike 1969 or 1868? AU53 with some small spots and verdigris 1870 AU58 possibly MS62

I guess that was 300 bucks well spent. Not that it matters; you know how when you see something you just have to have? Bingo---my frieds don't understand my mistress.

The color in those photos looks way off. Can you compensate for it by a proper white balance? I'm very active in the 3CN part of this hobby. You can find just about all of them through local/regional shows and various dealer's inventories. The toughest ones (business strikes) to find will be the 1883 and 1887. Of course, the 1884 and 1885 are virtually impossible other than Proof unless you have very deep pockets and go through the auctions. I find that the 1880 is a lot tougher than 1882 to find, but you won't see that by just looking at mintage figures or red book/grey sheet prices. A real sleeper is a lightly circulated 1875...very, very difficult to find in XF/AU+. I can actually find more 1876's than 1875's as a general rule. 1888 and 1889 are very available. I think they were heavily saved. You're also in a bit of luck as the 3CN market is basically lower than it normally is, which already sucks. It's one of the least loved series with only the Shield nickel ahead of it in that contest.

Prethen, how do you think my guesses were on the grades and is that a 1868 or 1869? Thanks.

Wheezydog: To be honest, I can't give any reasonable grades based on those pictures. They're too bright and off color for me to give a fair grade.

Thanks for the reply Prethen, I thought the same but I did zoom up and took a best guess from there.

Agreed with Prethen. Probably mostly AU/low MS coins though.

For KisNap, it was a small shop just North (5 or 6 miles) of the Valley View Med Center. It was only open three days a week. Nice old guy. Only took me three lunches to see his place, my wife was recovering from surgery (she came thru like a champ and she actually threw me out of her room and told me to go find "a coin"). I seem to remember a "North Shop" or "West Paramus" Coin shop. It's been over three years, may have even been in Ramsey, sorry.

It's called Longacre doubling and in it's in the Master die hub so it's basically on ALL 3CN strikes to one degree or another. There are certain dates that do have true doubling but that's not an area I specialize in.
The photos are still such that it's very difficult to grade. All the coins look like they could be high AU, maybe BU. The 1870 is the best photo and it might be a 58, but it also might be higher. I'm guessing you probably didn't do too bad.
