Hi.Can you take a look on pics and tell me-is this normal toning for this type of coin?Plenty of spots but on the rim rainbow toning is developing.Any chance of full rainbow?

I suppose so...nothing suggests any monkey business...for the perfect toned coin, Id like to see a little less 'hazing' and alot more colour.
I think I'm seeing some finger prints @ 11:00 oclock on the obverse.
As far as whats in store for it as the discolouration continues, I cant really comment.

This is very common toning for this coin. These came in those little black cases with the plastic insert. And they are well known to tone the coins inside.
Sure does look good though. Where did you get it? And did you pay a premium for the toning?

I think I have one with similar tone, I don't think they came encapsulated just in a plastic holder.

None of my 70's era silver dollars exhibit toning at all. Some are in clam shell boxes from the mint, they are unprotected and sit in a black plastic holder. Others are in standard issue 2 x 2 coin holders.

I bought this coin as a part of a lot.Didn't pay any specials.Same lot included 1$ 1973 with deep blue toning on the center.I agree with theory that is caused by original mint packing. Both are boxed(mint box is not very high quality).Maybe something to do with red material inside the box?Ive paid around $7 each.Overpaid?what do you think?
