The first crown sized silver coin, issued after independence by the Rep of the Philippines, celebrates Gen. Douglas McArthur as shown Obv. Great coin with a lot of history of sacrifices, blood, sweat and tears, all rolled into one coin I have always wondered why the coin design artist placed two flowers with two leaves each on the Rev? Here's the link to the sampaguita flower (Jasmine) site http://wayofdesign.com/blog/?tag=sampaguita the artist must have reffered the sampaguita flower to the words of Gen. MacArthur "I shall return" because the filipino word "Sampaguita" is derived from the words "sumpa kita" which means "I promise you" Report this Post to the Staff
