It's not an idiot question; it has been asked many times, because it's not as obvious as it is on some other forums.
Once upon a time, this forum had an easy-to-use "quote" button. Unfortunately, it was a bit too easy to use, because people over-used it, quoting entire threads and long posts containing multiple pictures when only a single sentence was really needed. It made threads far longer and harder to follow than they needed to be. So Bobby made making quotes more difficult by disabling the button.
There are two ways of doing it, but both involve manual copy-and-paste. First, from the "Reply to Topic" box, press the "Insert Quote" button. This will type [quote][/quote] for you. Or second, in the "Quick Reply" box at the bottom of the thread, simply type [quote][/quote] in yourself (remember to use square brackets, not round or curly ones). Now copy the line from the thread you wish quoted, and paste it in between the two quote symbols. Thus, if you type:
[quote]How do I include a quote[/quote]
you will create:
I find that in a long, complicated thread, it helps to identify the person being quoted. This used to be done automagically too, but now you have to type it in yourself. Typing:
[quote][i]Curio Bill said:[/i]
How do I include a quote[/quote]
