I got 3 that I count as memorable- a silver Gloriam Regni 5 sols of 1670 (French, for Colonies)that was holed, which brought me $350 from a dealer, a Chinese Sung Dynasty 1068-1076 Hsi Ning cash in great condition with wonderful patina (worth $3-5.00), and an Austrian Aluminum 5 Schilling of 1957, worth about $500 (240,000 minted). All for 25 cents apiece. I am sure there were many more, but these stick in my memory, the value of the coin, or because they were instrumental for taking me into a different field of collecting.

the coin shop had a huge 2feet diameter bowl full of various world coins, selling at US7cents each found a silver Finland 1 Markka listed at US$3 and a 1920 Taiwan silver coin listed by krause at US$40.00 not bad for 7 cents apiece & ten minutes of looking, but dont forget to bring a bottle of rubbing alcohol for hand sanitation, those old coins really do smudge up the fingers

One of my favorites. Ordered a 1936 coin from a dealers list in unc and received this 1935 for 5 euro. He didn't have the 1935 on his list and I guess he simply misread the year. The 1935 coin is the key of the series and extremely difficult to find in high grade. Guess it should be worth 200 euro in this grade.

maudry- Nice oversight! I have at times caught mistakes by dealers, and often your honesty in pointing out their error which would have cost them money does not go unnoticed. In fact, often they will just laugh and say something like "well, I priced it at X, and if you want it, I'll sell it to you at that." But in your case, you could not have caught it before buying, so it is no fault of your own.

One thing I learned early, to go through that huge pile of world coins quickly, I go straight for the blackend, sooted, or the 27mm or larger coins with a quick look through a 23x loupe The dealers just don't have the time to peer through a loupe to identify those blackened coins in EF or VF, that's how I got some 5 silver coins that way Also, was told, they change their junk pile of coins every other 3months exchanged with other dealers by weight, so good to know the disguised silver and rare coins are just travelling from one dealer to next
