How can you keep lint, dust, etc. out of coin flips, airtites, buy yourself slabs, etc.?

I scanned my 1964 quarter that I have just to see how the pic would come out and I saw lots of lint. Lint you can't even see if you are just looking at it with the naked eye.

I know you don't want to blow on it with your mouth because then you could make it worse with your own stuff, ya know. Then I was thinking maybe a little duster (you know, one of those little like puffers with the little brush on the end) but that didn't sound like a good idea either.

Anyone have suggestions on what to do with unwanted things getting in when sealing up your coins for long term storage?

Thanks for your help and my collection thanks you also.

rubb it with extremy vigor, with a brillo pad.. LOL no just joking. if the little puffer you are talking about doesn't releaze chemicals or other .. you should be okay ... The scan does show things you wouldn't of possibly known , finger prints and lint, and blemishes are also a big one for this.. Irishraider Coin World has had an article of some kind of air duster in a can that could be used as advertised however these usually do produce a liquid chemical reaction. as per My experiance

Im pretty sure you can buy compressed air in a can, that they use on computer components. It might be an expensive way to dust the coins off though.
Might be cheaper to buy a little pump up bottle that you can use over and over again. Remember though that if you compress air too much, you can form vapour and you may blow water on your coins.

Rest in Peace

Steve just beat me with the compressed air idea. I have a couple cans of air which I use mainly for cleaning my digital cameras. I also use it on coins. Have been doing it for years, and it seems to work fine.

I use compressed air too. I also use SAFLIPs which are dust, lint, and oil free as well as PVC free to begin with. Also, I always heat seal them. Haven't had any problems with dust or lint. Are you sure the lint is getting in or was it on the coins to begin with?

BTW, save that lint. I hear the mint is going to start compressing it into cent planchets.

Irish, I bet at least some of the lint you are seeing in your scans is on the glass pane of the scanner itself. Clean the glass with a lint-free cloth before you scan to see if that makes a difference.
