Please post where you buy coins online and rate them on a scale of 1-10 I sold my morgan cause I needed the money. I would like to know a set I could collect where the coins are in good condition. So please tell me your coin website that you buy from and suggestion coins for a new collector to collect.

What kind of budget are you looking at spending? Let's say per month? That will give us a better idea of what to suggest.

Teletrade has some good, inexpensive slabbed morgans for auction 3 times a week. The bad thing is the killer 12% buyer's premium.

Heritage- pretty good, except for the 30 day auction listings.

Then there's always good 'ol ebay. You shouldn't get burned if you're careful enough.

I would think Buffalo nickels or Mercury dimes would be a fun one for you to do. I am not sure of a good website for Mercury dimes but will look around for you. All but about 4-5 coin you should be able to get for that set in g-vg condition. so for your budget that would be a good one for you. also if there is a coin shop near you then most will have them for sell from 1-5 dollar per dime. I is a fun set and since it is also 90% silver it will always have value. also it is a nice set that is fairly cheap to put together in lower grades. I suggest that set since it is the first set I started when seriously collection coin and I love to look at it. Just missing the big one. If this is a set you are intested in I can do some look one some of the site I have bought from and reqamend some. I do not what to put alot of tiome itto it if it not a set you like.
I also know that bobby(DAD) sell Mercury dimes as well if you deside to go with them he would be a good contact and someone you can trust

Don't be too quick to discount ebay. Sure you may not always get the coin you want when you want it, but you can still get some sweet deals. A good strategy is to look for sellers that are moving collections (for instance selling several quarters from a set in seperate auctions that end minutes apart) and bid at the last possible second. When I do this, good coins seem to always fall through the cracks and into my collection for short change. Just make sure you buy from reputable sellers with a return policy and you should be ok.

As for what to collect; maybe try a type set of American coins to get a feel for what you might like.

Mercury's are getting hard to come by in, lets say, XF and above condition. You could get some for that budget in VF and below and not blow your whole budget. You have to think of a good way to store them also so you have to figure that in as well. You might even think about Roosevelt dimes, you can get these in higher grades for lesser money than the Mercs. You might even do a pre-1965 Washington quarter set for VF and below. Franklin half dollars are pretty affordable right now also. Silver dollars, eh, you could, but then you have to blow your whole budget on a couple coins a month and that isn't any fun if you are looking to put together a whole set. Pennies are ok, I think you could do a pretty good set of wheats or even just memorials, memorials would be cheaper and easier to complete. Mmmm, Jefferson nickels, anything that is circulating at present would be good to do. Anything previous to these and you will end up with holes because there are keys to each that are even beyond my price range. Here is a pretty good place to buy, they have a lot of coins in stock and it is fun to go through the lists they have.
