I know, and have documentation that this has been in safety deposit and/or dresser drawer for most of it's life. Can someone help me grade /value it, can't afford the real thing... sigh, & I know it isn't a CC

No, why would you ask that? I've more than proof it came from safety deposit box and was in storage for most of it's life.

I don't know what you're looking for, or what you want. This is my first real post and you're acting like I'm out of sight... what's that mean? I've got good stuff.. or you're being obnoxious?

bfranton, Welcome to the CCF! It's great to have you here. There are many combined years of experience here and many great folks! Enjoy your time here and feel free to ask as many questions as you want :-)
That's a beautiful $5 Half Eagle. Is it an 1879-S?

Adam, scratches cannot bring a coin from 53 to 20. Also, you seem to be going by Red Book prices, which are rarely accurate.

Extremely high in most cases. Numismedia is also somewhat high but still fairly accurate, and the Greysheet is regarded as the most accurate. No guide is perfect though. As members always say, use it as a guide only.

You can get one free sample- prices for most coins don't change that much so you can keep that sample for a long time.
