Interesting that someone beyone me, the owner of the piece, took over the posting. INCLUDING grading. If you want to know something specific, why not talk to me?

Again, it's great to have you as a member of the CCF You have posted this coin in the Classic US Coin Grading Forum. You WILL get opinions on the grade of your coin. I believe it grades AU58(wear evident on high points of design) and Greysheet puts this date at $380.

It looks AU-58to me. Mintage 426,200. Fields look clean. I would value it around $375-$400.

I'd even go with MS-61. It's very nice! (That would put it around $900). FYI: I think your statement in your original post Quote:
can't afford the real thing caused a lot of confusion about what the coin was. My interpretation of your post also made me think you were saying this coin was not genuine. I was confused, like a couple of people here. Also, You'll also find a kinder-gentler type of coin enthusiasts here than many other sites. We like it that way. Words like: Quote: This is my first real post and you're acting like I'm out of sight... what's that mean? I've got good stuff.. or you're being obnoxious? at people who are just asking questions might be a bit more abrasive than we usually see here. 'Nuff said. to the Forum!

mia culpa, and thanks all, for the info. What I ment when I said I couldn't afford it... was to have it appraised "officially". No excuses, but, I've not worked in over a year. Looking at having to liquidate is hard. ... and this was my first post.

Quote: thanks all, for the info. No problem. We all love coins here! I'm sorry you have to liquidate parts of your collection. Once you get 50 posts here on the CCF you can post your items for sale and you'll find people here interested in everything you might want to sell. Sorry Moe, but the rules were updated a few months ago: You must have at least 250 quality* posts and have been a member for at least 90 days to post anything for sale or trade. This applies to any forum at all, not just the Buy/Sell/Trade forums. You must have at least 50 quality* posts and have been a member for at least 14 days to buy or respond to a trade. That coin has a lot of appeal and although not a rare date it is much less common than the later dates you usually see on ebay. Most of those common dates with less appeal than your coin are going for $350 or a bit more. I think many collectors would pay $400 for this coin. If you do sell it on the 'Bay they will eat up close to 10% of the total sale price, so you might do better selling it in a face-to-face venue. Perhaps you could attend a local coin show or coin club meeting. Sorry to hear you need to sell. This is a pretty gold piece that belongs in a nice collection.

to CCF! Looks like you have a very nice coin and half eagles are always in demand. Because you have a raw (uncertified), common date coin that looks lighly ciculated, the value will be tied to the spot (current trading) price of gold. Just a few years ago pieces like this were everywhere for under $200 each. Gold was $700 an ounce then. Your coin has about 0.242 troy ounces of pure gold in it and with gold over $1200 an ounce the value has risen dramatically. If your coin were certified as a mint state piece, the value would go up a lot more also, but I agree it's an AU coin putting it around $380 today.
