My fiance got me a couple of coins as a wedding gift and I thought that this one looked a little strange around the rim. What do you think the grade is and does anyone know what's going on with the rim doubling? The doubling is on both sides though it's a little more defined on the reverse. Thanks.

I have seen a 1921 that was a cast fake. It had seam similar to this but it was on the edge of the coin. Interesting. Could just be a die variety maybe. This is one for a more experienced Morgan person than myself so lets see how this plays out.

It's not unusual to see denticles cut into the collar area, and Strike Doubling on them. Yours is a fairly extreme example, but a little extra pressure would both push the denticles in further, raise the edge a little more, and as a result make Strike Doubling more prominent. Although interesting and unusual, I don't think it "extraordinary" nor a sign of a counterfeit.

As regards grade, technically low AU but I fear it's been brushed, evidenced by the detail pics.

Its definitely real, dont worry about that. It looks characteristic for this double die.

I'd say Matt, you have it VAM 2...though I wouldn't call the coin a true doubled die by any means,
