Hi, I was wondering why Do Not Duplicate would be stamped on a quarter. Thanks

Probably because someone had a "Do Not Duplicate" stamp and thought it would be funny to stamp a few coins. I personally don't think it's very funny to be defacing the US currency.

My parents have that exact stamp at the shop. Interesting. And who's whining about defacing currency? We have plenty of holed, stamped, ringed coins and well as run over, buried, etc. Hey, they left "In God We Trust" unmarred.

Exactly speck, I'm waiting for the day when a 7070 is offered with these. My son has a friend who boasts a "WHERE"S GEORGE?" star collection.

speck, Just because there are plenty of holed, stamped, ringed coins out there doesn't make it any less objectionable to be defacing US currency - IMO. I can't believe any legitimately serious collector would consider defacing coins a form of entertainment even if they leave "In God We Trust" unmarred.

Plenty of legitimately serious collectors collect elongated cents.

If you think that's bad, I found a silver quarter many years ago where the last two digits of the date were deliberately gouged out. My best guess is that it's a 1957.
Was that someone's idea to prevent it from being pulled from circulation?
Needless to say, the "D" mintmark on the reverse and the rim attest to its silver status.

Man did you ever trigger a memory. I wish I had all the pennies I put on RR tracks to see what the train wheels would do to them. The first time I did it was at my grandmother's house. There was a small switching yard not far from her house and, in those years, they had a steam locomotive/switcher (streamed lots of pure white steam and belched black clouds of smoke). We'd constantly sneak in to the yard and try to find the pennies we'd left on the tracks. The Rail Road "Dicks" (as we called them) would chase us out and we'd run yelling and dodging all over the place or we knew we'd end up in reform school if they caught us. And that gang was when we still used coal to heat the homes in the northeast and just a little over 55 years ago. Thanks!!
