It probably will. Bit will recover. Always does. Just a matter of 1 year or 10.
Really question is are you (or anyone) going to be buying copper during the valleys and selling when it recovers to where it is now?

Yeah, it just isn't that convenient for me to keep 1,000 lbs of copper bars in my basement hoping that copper will go up $1.

Plenty of copper bullion can be found at your local bank for .01 each. Takes a little work but you can set aside a nice little pile of it in no time.

problem is copper cents aren't seen as bullion yet. no one really buys/sells it based on copper content.
until there is a market to buy/sell "Junk Coppers" no one will be. Its gonna take a jump in copper prices to even be worth it.

yea, there is less than a full page of auctions of people selling "Copper penny Bullion" But notice how they are all "buy it now" and the few that are auctions, have 0 bids. I've got plenty of plastic bullion for sale, but its worth nothing if noone will buy it.

But if you wait until everyone realizes it you've missed the boat. Those who see the potential before it's realized are the ones who capitalize, as long as they are prepared.

Every time this topic comes up for either Silver, Gold, etc. I always remember a TV show, can't remember the name, but some guys stole Gold, went into frozen state for several hundred years, woke, faught over that stuff only to find Gold in the future was as common as Aluminum is today. Might sound far fetched but doesn't anyone wonder about the not so distant future of so called precious metals?

copper has so many uses and applications that it's price will always go up, lows are probably just hiccups caused by unforeseen interruption of supply

Nic, you're right, thats part of my thinking/pondering , I am also wondering what it will do to recycle prices - I'm not a copper investor by any means, I found the article on yahoo news, and thought it would be something worth talking about here

Actually the usage of Copper is fading away for many items used in the past. For example remember all those cords you used to have for your computer, phones, faxes, etc? All going wireless. Many organizations USED to use miles and miles of wire and cable for communciations. Those too are dwindling as Fiber Optics and wireless are replacing them. Ever look at the inside of an old TV, Radio, etc? Used to have massive wires made of Copper all over the place. Now a simple little board of chips. People used to use Copper for cooking but now replaced with Stainless Steel. So just where is Copper's usage growing?

Carl - that's a good question. I have heard that a lot of the recycled copper in the US is going to China. Maybe they are still using it.
I don't know what the demand is. I do know that we've had a number of local news stories in the last few years outlining the theft of copper from construction sites and such. For a while, people were also stealing air conditioning units for the copper. Haven't heard much about that recently, though.

communications are getting away from copper, but there's always going to be uses for copper wire.. firearm ammunition will always use copper jackets along with brass shell casings, and developments over the past decade in weapons manufacture for military use also have included copper, crazy what they have come up with!
so sure, some instances or types of use might be waning, but new ideas are out there, and being put into use daily
