This is the coin that somebody (you know who you are!) made me bid on. And I won. And it arrived today. I've always wanted one, and now I got one. Welcome to "The Fold", Mr. Lincoln! Steve (Pardon the not-well-lit pictures)

I believe that "somebody" is looking out for your best interests. Nice addition to any collection; a coin and relative condition which has been entering my mind from time to time. I actually took a stab at one on ebay (unslabbed though) but was too low with my bid.

Quote: somebody (you know who you are!) I wonder who that is. That is absolutely gorgeous. I'll have to start looking out for a RD 09VDB soon.

Wow, what a stunner!! I love the old coins when they are in that condition!
how do you suppose people are able to keep coins looking like that for 100+ years? Especially considering the availability and quality of storage available back then.

Thanks everyone for sharing my joy!
Parkquarters, I had posted in somebody's thread that I was aiming at a 64RB like somebody but it went over my max. The seller also had this RD and I got it for $71.
Sprucansailor, I often ponder that question. We have heard of people socking away coins long ago, and I think it still goes on like that today. As simply as what many of us here do, and do to some degree. I have a number of rolls of coins that may be kept "as is" long after I'm gone. It's intriguing to imagine someone, someday, opening a roll and saying "Wow! A whole roll of BU 1984 Lincoln Cents! These things are almost a hundred years old and look at them, fresh as the day they came from the mint!"
Kinda hard to imagine, but maybe just the same when that guy put away that roll of 1909 Lincoln Cents, knowing he'd never see that day, but thinking "Someday....."
Unfortunately because I haven't gotten some proper lighting in my "coin room" (gotta do something about that) the pics don't show the luster and brightness of the coin. Looking at this one, I have a feeling that one of my raw ones may be a 63 or 64.
But, I thank somebody for inviting us to share in his recent acquisition and causing me to finally acquire one as well. If it hadn't been for that "push", I'd still be sitting here thinking
Someday.......
Steve

That's a beautiful coin. Anyone know what the highest grades available are for this coin? 64 seems like a premium grade coin for that age.

Thanks!
I had heard that there was a 68 floatin' around out there. Apparently there are two! The following info comes from Heritage from an auction where a 67RD sold for $1495.00. Reading across the grid PCGS has slabbed 199 in 67 with 1 higher, NGC has 97 in 67 with 1 higher, and CAC has stickered 13 of the 67's and none of the 68's.
