A bit of a long shot but have you tried to trace any of the former GIs or their families?

Thai I have but no luck ,I once bought this photo album with some nice WWII photos in it and some personal drawings and such and did find the daughter of the enlisted man and talked with her and sent pictures of the album to her via email and come to find out her sister did not pay a storage bill and its contents were sold off on ebay . I sent her the album and did not charge her for anything it felt great to do something and expect nothing in return . Here was the photo album photos http://s3.photobucket.com/albums/y6...%20A%20Beer/

You are a kind-hearted gentleman (or a gentle-hearted lady). I'm sure the daughter was thrilled by your gift. As for getting nothing in return? You will sooner or later.

That's very admirable of you. I was thinking the same thing when I saw your posts / pic and then Vic chimes in about contacting the families. It's a natural thing to do when you see the names and cities along with the State in which they resided. The story is worth more than any amount of money.
Peace

I have one that I haven't finished researching. After looking up some of the names it appears they were all from a 101st Airborne unit. The one soldier was KIA at Normandy and although just guessing, I have a feeling it was signed shortly before the channel crossing.

Very cool string. I know if must have made Gutkowski feel good to try to do something that no one would expect. Very big heart!

Sometimes it does not work out that way. I have had occasion to purchase houses with contents, one I bought had pictures/ stuff of the ww1 grand father(?). The seller, same name, had no interest & was very rude.
