A lot of coins in 1800's Brazil was countermarked. The one that you show is attributed to Ico in the state of Ceara. It was a center of a revolutionary movement 1829 - 1832 with a lot of local countermarks.

Quote:
In order to prevent chaotic conditions resulting from local and private countermarking, the government passed law #54 of 6 October 1835 ordering all coppers countermarked according to the following standards:
2 Oitavos = 7.18 grams = 10 Reis
4 Oitavos = 14.34 grams = 20 Reis
8 Oitavos = 28.69 grams = 40 Reis
The countermarks consist of neat numerals within a circle, having a plain or shaded field. These countermarks were applied to various Brazilian coinage from 1799 to 1833. In addition ... countermarks are found on various Portuguese, Angolan, San Tome, Mozambican and pre-1799 Brazilian coins.

Thank you very much for the informations.
the host coin is from Cuyaba mint, and the countermark is Para, different from another national countermarks, the "1" is smaller than the "0".

In my oppinion the color if the picture is accurate is the result of using a copper cleaner on the coin. As the coin re-ages this is the inevitable color that appears. You see this all the time with badly cleaned US cents.
