I just received a roll of silver Washington quarters in the mail. The seller taped all 40 coins with packing tape across the face to a sheet of paper. Now of course, all the coins have tape goo on them. Fortunately, these are all just bullion, but there are some nice uncirculated quarters in the lot.

I'm thinking acetone would be the best way to get rid of the tape gunk?

Thanks!

Ugh, I hate it when people do stuff like that. Acetone would be what I'd try, even if it doesn't work it won't do more damage.

GooGone would definitely remove it, but you might have to "chase" it with acetone to remove all trace of the GooGone. I've never had any problems when I've removed gunk from circulated coins with GooGone, but I'd proceed with caution if you use it on uncirculated ones.

Citrus Oil would probably take it off as well....maybe even gasoline, but I'd do it outside!

I don't think they regularly sell coins. The ad stated it was a charity thing and the coins were donated. After seeing how they were shipped, it wasn't hard for me to believe.

I'm just glad it's nothing more than bullion. Although I haven't searched for any varieties yet. With my luck, this will be the time I find some rare variety and it'll have sticky goop all over it!

I guess that'd still be better that bullion with sticky goop on it! (Just looking on the bright side lol..)

Acetone took it right off. Didn't find any rare varieties. At least the goo is off.

Thanks!
