I think I've mentioned this before but since I had so much luck last Sunday I thought I'd bring it up again. If you go to coin shows try to take the time to get to know the dealers. Talk to them as much as they will allow. Ask what they do with any Albums or Folders of coins they purchase from people. Some time ago I started to ask that since almost no dealer has them for sale, only the loose coins. I was shocked to find that almost all throw them away. So I started to ask if it's not to much trouble to bring some to the next coin show for me. A few did but one dealer brought me a box of about 50 Folders and Albums of almost every brand imaginable. A few others here and there also but nothing like from that one dealer. Rather a large dealer with 3 tables at every show. At a coin show last Sunday the same dealer brought me two boxes of Albums and Folders. Without counting I think there is about 70 of them. I keep the ones I need or might in the future but ask people I know if they want any of the Albums. The Folders I give to one elderly person at a flea market and he sells them easily. The reason I mention this is if you go to coin shows regularly, try to get to know dealers that are there frequently. Ask them if they get any Folders or Albums and what do they do with them. Nothing to loose by asking.

I've been looking for an empty FAO board number 1b for years without any luck. If you ever find one I will gladly purchase it from you

Or you can give them away on the forum here. That's what I would do.

just carl,
If you have some extra danscos that you'd be willing to part with. I'm looking for a cent, nickel, dime and half dollar albums. Please PM me if this is possible (I would've sent you a message but "no specified info". Thanks, Arthrene

My local dealer often gives me used albums or used pages when I'm looking for something.

Yes there was several of those but I gave them to someone I know as I was leaving that show. Sorry. Quote:

I mostly grabbed the Whitman Albums for now. Almost filled a Walking Liberty half Album from duplicates last night. Sure was a lot of odd ones in that mess. Some I never heard of before. Got to go out to the car and see what else is in there.

If they give you some more Library of Coins albums at another show, let me know. I'm sure my son would be interested.
In the meantime, I'll take your advice when we go to shows.

albums in most coin stores here are not much in demand, used or new, but I wonder what will come up if I do inquire with the dealers, sounds interesting

Do you collect coins of the Philippines, Nic? Whitman used to make an album (#9526) for a Philippines type set from 1864 to 1961. It might be fun to work on if you can find one.

If you have any of the out-of-print foreign albums, I bet there would be a demand here.

Kind of suprized to hear that. Around me at coin stores and shows it appears it is common for dealers to purchase collections in Albums or Folders. Usually from someone that inherited a collection or just got tired of collecting and want to sell off what they have. All dealers know they can make way more selling each coin than trying to sell an Album or Folder even if mostly or completely full. So they take all the coins out and place in 2x2's or equivalent flips. Which is why if you ask there is a good chance those dealers just throw out the used ones. Over the years I probably received close to a thousand Albums and Folders from dealers and FREE.

The main problem is shipping usually. To send Dansco Albums it would take those flat rate boxes at the USPS and not sure but I think they are up to close to $10. I just went out to my car and looked closely. 2 Library of Coins Albums for Liberty Walking halves. 10 of some Folder or Albums I've never heard of before called Popular Album by Wayte Raymond. 3 Dansco Albums = Indian Head cents, Lincoln Head Cents, Jefferson nickels. 2 Littleton Albums 5 Whitman Albums which I keep 45 Whitman Folders which no one should use. This weekend I'll give the Whitman Folders and the other stuff to an elderly guy at the flea market. Not the Dansco or Whitman Albums though or not just yet. I'll try for more Dansco Albums next show in a few weeks and try to build up enough to ship to someone in one of those USPS boxes.
