GENE.....how long is the longest row of segments on a Morgan?
Maybe four segments.

Are the segments in parallel rows on a Morgan?
No, they are scattered all over the place.

If the impressions on a Morgan were caused by a "tilted die" as claimed by the experts from the sacred incantations passed down through folklore from the pioneers, would you not think that the impressions on a Morgan would be characterized by similarities with this CBH (that actually was caused by a tilted die)?

Is the notion of a tilted die even a remote possibility on a Morgan & Orr?
No, and in order to realize this, a person would have to know the press.

Contrarily, the knowledge passed down does not include blasphemous mention of press mechanics. All knowledge is in starring at coins and speculating to the point of conviction.

I am an outcast, a rogue, and a radical, but I am confident in those labels, and I'll do my best to give you a new perspective on the mystery of these denticle impressions on Morgans since you've shown interest.

You hit on a very important point.......the fact is there are cause and effect. by which effect is the result that one stares at and guestimates cause. which is what I have been hinting at all this post...

Possibly Russ, once you have sent the coin to Leroy, you may ask your brothers in arms (or cronies, as the case may be), to check their vam-6 for the crack/seam. I would imagine that Coxe probably has a stash of them. I sense both refinement and chivalry in his character, and highly doubt that he would try to beat anyone to the punch. Find another with the crack, a couple without, and I would say that it is revision time, and also time for die state speculation, which is another thing that I would like to discuss if we get around to it and you guys don't mind.

As have I, and I am just about past the hinting phase anytime now Gene. Let's lay it all out on the table starting tomorrow.

you see when we brought up this subject , oh some where, I cant recall as Nixon would say, but there was no room to introduce the fact there's no room for this to happen.. but there is a logical perhaps hidden reality of how these impressions happened..alternate ideas were quickly shut down, much like the democrats or polloticians in general.(YEA I CAN'T SPEEEEL) the idea is to discredit the source that asks the question they can't definitively answer.. so its out to lunch we go. and the answers on hold....don't call me I'll call you....But there is a way it can happen...the effect is self evident...the CAUSE is the question......SO did MR Musterd Use the Rope inthe LIVING ROOM?HUMMMMM

I 'would' ask just what in the world you are talking about Gene, but the mention of ropes and mustard in the living room causes it to sound borderline kinky, and this 'is' a family forum, so I will refrain from requesting further explanation.

so then (I believe one idea was..) is the Idea of a coin stuck in between the dies causing the imprint in the die out? I would think the coins to soft to mark the die..

You are correct Gene, that is one ridiculous notion, and did not happen, I assure you.

Oh, I'm not familiar with it............. Ready to start?

I recall that there were these denticle impressions near the DO or OL portion of DOLLAR on the reverse of a 1878 S and I don't remember if it was 17A, B or C. Is there any way that you could provide a photo? I really hate to try to retrieve it myself.

Gene, if you would be so kind, could you please find a pretty good photo of the denticles and the rim of a Morgan (maybe even on the same photo as the 17-whatever)?

I know that you said earlier that pictures are better than narrative, so any pictures that you can supply may prove to be useful.

Good pictures Gene, thanks very much.
Please allow me to clam myself down for a couple of minutes (I've been just a little bit upset with myself), and I will get right back to you within about 5 or 10 minutes. I like the middle photo, so that is the one that I would like you to stare at.
Looks like those impressions could move just a little bit to the right and then straight down and fit perfectly over those denticles doesn't it?
