Hi gang, Even the best of us get hoodwinked at times.....LOL About two months ago I won an auction for some redbooks..a whole case of them......they were a couple of years old but still great for reference if you dont mind the outdated pricing......I reccomemend them to first time buyers as they only have to spend a couple of bucks to discover the world of coins.....anyways.....I won the auction and afterwards I noticed it was payal only....I Immediatly emailed the seller asking if a money order was oK....to which he promptly replied yes and then proceeded to give the address.....I sent out the US postal money order for the amount and now it has been over two months and no books........I have opened a dispute with ebay to which he never replied......I know he or his company cashed the money order as I paid for a tracer....they sent me a copy of the cashed MO........I have sent numerous emails and called repeatedly with no answers........any reccomendations aside from driving down to Georgia? PS it has crossed my mind.......Heheheheh

I'm just curious why you prefered to send a USPS money order rather than paypal. Paypal is free for the buyer, money order must have cost you $5 or more.

Is he still a registered user on ebay CoinNut? I don't know if you have a Paypal account or not but with Paypal you can dispute it there as well. You could always fill out the form from the post office inspector. You fill out the form online. Here it is if you want to do that: http://www.usps.com/postalinspector...omplaint.htmAlways worth a shot. I dislike shisters very much. I got ripped off for over $350 one time for some hard drives about 5 years ago and it did not make me very happy. Dishonest people just really are the pits.

The reason for the money order was becuase I didnt have enough money in my account at the time to cover it.......and it would have taken three to four days to transfer funds from my bank account into the paypal account........I figured that a money order would reach him in two to three days at the least......also there is a little more clout with a postal money order as the government stands behind their product if a claim is made.....they also do the legwork to investigate mail fraud which I am now considering as the seller claims to have not received......He is still a registered user but has had several negative feedbacks lately.....I havent left a negative yet as I hope to still be able to complete the transaction and get my merchandise.......but time is running out

I used to visit a forum of eh survivalists Together with a dozen of them I was defrauded out of 60 silver eagles by an ebay specialist selling coins he did not have and not for the first time The police made a file on him and about everybody got refunded or got his coins apart from me being a foreigner If you are defrauded on the internet you can go to your local small claims court and start a free procedure against any american in any of the other states A Texan did this and got awarded double ( the fraudster was from Mystic on the eastcoast ) The american police could not be bothered to help me I got a single email asking me if I was still defrauded

There is no need to add funds to your PayPal. They debit it from your savings/checking account. Adding funds it a waste of time. Also did you not have a credit card on file with PayPal?

I have not used paypal since they had a problem holding on to thousands of peoples personal info,, I had to cancel my credit card and get a new number, all the problem was mine, paypal took no responsiboility for the loss nor was I re paid for the time and money I had to spend to monitor my credit files for a year after .
Pay pal never again !!
I pay by money order only, if a seller does not accept it, then I dont bid .

You may want to contact your state attorney general's office. They oversee commerce, and at the very least they will be able to tell you what your recourse is. I know here in Massachusetts they were very responsive to one of my co-workers.

While I am a PayPal user -in fact, most of my sales auctions are PayPal only due to time and travel constraints and the convenience of PayPal- I am just holding my breath to the day I get burned by PayPal. I've used PayPal since the late 1990s and have read all the horror stories of what can go wrong, so am living with PayPal from day to day, don't let my account build up to levels which could financially cripple me if PayPal froze my account. That said, I occasionally have problems with PayPal-only auction winners who have PayPal accounts but, after winning the auction, tell me they do not use PayPal, will be sending a money order instead. Apparently they have a PayPal account only to get around the ebay block on PayPal-only auctions. This drives me up the wall since it forces me to make an extra trip to the Post Office (25 miles one-way = $7.50 to $8.00 gas cost) and creates a major delay in shipment of the item(s) - I normally make only one trip to the PO per week. It's not so bad if a bidder contacts me before the auction's end to ask if I will accept a MO or check; I always say "Yes" and make accommodations for a delayed shipment. I then remove the block on the auction, but when an auction winner for a $2 item wins an auction, tells me he doesn't use PayPal, then expects almost next-day delivery, he's pushing the "cheerful service" envelope. Also, I make it clear in my descriptions that my auctions are PayPal only, that if other forms of payment are preferred, then contact me. If this is not clearly stated, then the seller has to take some responsibility for the consequences. Still, there is no excuse for not shipping an item no matter what the method of payment. Fred

Hi I agree Fred, But I did email the seller and he agreed that it was ok.....he also cheerfully cashed the money order......all things being said I think he came out ok so far....and I do think two and a half months is a bit long for shipping......LOL

Since you sent a money order, it has now become mail fraud. Contact your postmaster and find out if you should file your complaint at your local post office or the post office at the zipcode the seller gave you.
As much as I hate to say it, this is why I always use Paypal, even if I have to wait a couple of days to get funds into the account. I don't let Paypal deduct from my bank account as an e-check. The advantage is that the buyer will win a Paypal dispute if the seller didn't follow all of their rules. You can only open a Paypal dispute if you paid with Paypal, though.

Bad seller, bad experience.
1 bad experience from 10 experiences will make you feel bad and doubt whether to buy again online.

**UPDATE** Seller finally came thru with the goods........after I emailed a copy of the cashed money order by his company....along with a note which stated if I did not hear from him in 3 days I was going to contact the postal service......I guess alls well that ends well......except for the three dollars extra I paid out for the tracer.......I had almost given up...in fact I had decided not to do anything else except leave a negative feedback........which I did.......this was before I got the items....now the seller asked If I would reconsider the feedback........Ohhh brother!!

Hi CoinNut5
Man this guy sounds like a piece of work !! You have to go to the ends of the earth to get what you paid for and he wants the neg removed ,, what a joke !!
There is no way I remove the neg, since you have received the goods, my contact with this person would end abruptly and with no fan fair..
I would however post His ID in the Not recommended sellers (I did not check to see if you already have ) so that other buyers can be aware of this guy .

Wow CoinNut. I wish you had posted a month earlier, but glad it worked out for you. One of my previous post dealt with your same situation, but was ignored or shunned as being off track/topic. This was when I inquired about what happens when you file a claim with Paypal (first time it ever happened to me.)I ran into the same problem (not receiving a coin)and have since learned a whole bunch about Paypal Protection and any other form of payment connected to them.
Can you tell me/us more about "tracing" a USPS money order as compared to a cashiers check or regular money order? I just purchased a 1 oz. Kruggerrand and the seller prefers a money order, but will take Paypal (my protection) for 2% more which = $13.00. Add this to the S&H&Insurance, it comes to a $29 xtra. It would be good to know what extra weight a USPS MO carries. Thanx a lot!! Dave
