I met with Myst as we both arrived about the same time this afternoon to enter the show. It's always good to see Myst. First spot we got hung up was a dealer just inside the door who had retail prices on a lot of velvet trays but the coins were 50% off.
I could have spent all my allowance right there. There were enough very acceptable AU and UNC coins really cheap and I got a nice walker a Merc. An
IHC and a Big heavy copper 1870 Spanish coin of some kind that I just liked.
Myst got a beautiful Australia Florin and an old high grade farthing and a Walker and Merc as well I think.
There were about 31 tables with maybe about 20 dealers there. Sure there were some amazing coins with high price tags. There was plenty of everything for a small show, but we both had the impression that prices were pretty high for even lower grade coins. You could maybe get 15% off haggling on anything but the tags were marked up enough for the dealers to still have an advantage. That's generally speaking.
If you could look long and hard enough there was a good deal here and there.
I am sure this is typical for the market right now. Not just for the local show here. I just didn't feel like I came away with a super buy this year. I did get a 3 cent silver trime in choice VF obverse and probably an XF reverse and I am happy for that but I didn't get a steal on it either. The only nickel I got was a 2010 D business strike and it is a run of the mill BU that will hold out a spot in my set until I get a nicer one.
Myst bought me lunch! A meatball sub! It was great! Thanks again, Myst.

I am not knocking the show. It was just fine as far as shows go, except it was sort of like a slow night fishing for me today. Nothing was really jumping out at me.
So there's the report.
