i just wanted to thank everyone for the info, eventhough it is not quite what I wanted to hear. I am going to get it checked by a certified dealer that can also have it graded. I will let everyone know what I find out.

I say a fake, and from the size of the dents in rim, probably not even silver.

i have had the morgan checked by a certified dealer and he says it is authentic. but he says that it looks like it was bumped, but he does not undersand why the reeded edge is not flat if it was bumped. the reeded edge is in perfect shape. also he said it is off-center and he says the coin has been cleaned. the missing star may have been worn off by time but he dont understand why the wear pattern is so uneven.

I agree that its off center a little bit, It isn't all that unusual for a bump on the coin to not mess up the reeded edge of the coin so that is perfectly feesable as well (even though that coin took a pretty good hit to make such a big dent). The coin could have been Struck Through Grease which would look like uneven wear and also cause the "missing star". I wasn't comfortable in stating that the coin was authentic or fake by the pictures provided and thats why I never stated either way in this case but it seems everything else the dealer told you looks correct to me

The one part of this coin that screams fake to me are the wheat stalks going into the RIB in pluribus. I have never seen a Morgan that has any part of the lettering covered with the portrait. The "wheat stalks" (they don't even look like wheat in the picture) touch the I. Miss Liberty is just a hair too big.

This is one of those coins that every one of us would love to hold in our hands. I think it is . Thanks for sharing it.

becky I tried to enlarge the wheat stalks to show more detail. I hope this helps. there is also a line going through the one stalk on the left at the top. I think this is from the mint there must have been something in the dye. plus the whole reeded edge all the way around has marks and lines through it, but the reeded edge are fine around them and in a few spots there are two different shades. but the shades are so close that you can only see them with a 10 power.
