AT a flea market in Toronto today, my dad purchased some silver coins. I had looked at them earlier and believing they were fake, walked on. My mom said one of them had an American obverse and a Philippines Reverse I'm. I might have purchased it for the heck of it had I noticed it.

Anyway, I believe they were fake because

- The sellers were Chinese
- They were $15 for 8 coins
- They had about 200 coins, but each coin was only available in a specific few dates

What do you think? Pics are below. I can scan individual coins if you wish to see better pics of them. These pics show them in the sheet they came in (one pic shows one side, the second pic shows the flipped page)

Also, if anyone has information on the composition (perhaps you have seen these fakes before?) I'd be interested to know. They sound like silver when you drop them from a small height, but they would cost a lot more than ~$2 each if they contained the proper amount of silver.

Sad to say but yes...they are all fakes

$15 for the lot ain't bad for some fakes. It's possible they could have a small amount of silver in them but some others here will be able to explain that a bit better then me.

I'll let others comment on the pix. Your three reasons that you list would be enough to make me run far, far away.

They look like copper-nickel. Some of those years are not even accurate - they didn't make ASEs in 1906! These are textbook fakes. Where was this flea market, so I can avoid it. My dad would make the same mistake.

I kind of appreciate the effort in trying to turn a quarter into a silver dollar, and the attempt to take what I'm thinkin is a penny and a gold dollar and doing the same hehe.

He suspected they were fake when he bought them too. He's not upset. He actually bought them for my brother's little kid to play with.
Thanks for the input everyone!

Libertad: It was the flea market on old weston road.

1906 Walker? Those things are rare aren't they?
I mean there weren't too many of them printed or minted or what ever they did to them.
I would have paid $15 for that one alone, (and I am not kidding).

yeah, he knows they aren't real. He has no interest in coins at all. He figured they were fake when he saw the dates and the prices, and when he showed me he wanted to see how long before I called them fakes (immediatley).

He's trying to get me going by telling me he's going to bring them to a pawn shop when they return home from their visit here in Toronto, but he bought them for my young nephew to play with so I don't have to knock some sense into him. ;)

I just looked at the 1799 draped bust dollar coin and the stars are all wrong. It's a pretty obvious fake now that I'm comparing it to a picture of the real thing online.

I also just checked them with some drop tests and I now believe they contain absolutely no silver. My ears were deceiving me inside the loud flea market.

I can guarantee that the mintage were all incredibly low for those coins. Those are, in fact, rarer than the originals. Trust me, I'm a professional.

Yep, not only are they fakes, but thay are fakes of silver bullion coins, so they don't even contain the intrinsic silver value. Sorry,

Though I have not sent them to a lab, I would not handle them. Pay attention to the news and you hear about the toxic Chinese jewelry. Enough said.
