First, I do not know if there is any issue with copyrights, so if the producers of Jeopardy are listening, contact me.

I have spent some time putting together a Jeopardy match based on numismatics. I am posting the rules here as a draft edition and I am hoping people will read them and give comments.

I need feedback on when to hold it and the whole timing between answers issue. I do have a different method that I thought of after I wrote this, so nothing is carved in stone yet.

If you think you will play, please let me know, and what time and day is best for you.
Thanks.

Contest ended for lack of interest. However it may be reinstated at the OP request

Rules of Jeopardy

Basic Game Rules
This is a game where you ask the questions and I give the answers. Except it's not done in that order. There will be three (3) different categories in each of the two main rounds. Each category is separated into six (6) different Canadian currency denominations. As the value of the denomination increases, so does the difficulty of the question.

Play begins with a randomly selected player choosing a category and a denomination. Most players like to start with the smallest denomination to test out the category to ensure they understand what it relates to, but the player is free to choose any category and denomination.

Below is a picture of what the play board looks like. Each category will have a name given to it that describes the basic topic of all the questions in that category.
New-Game-Discussion---Jeopardy

Once the player has posted their selection, the host (in this case me) will post the ANSWER under the selected square. All players are free to post responses to the uncovered square, unless it is a Daily Double square (see below), but all responses must be in the form of a QUESTION. Any response not to start with who, what, when, where, why, or how will be considered as wrong. Get it right and you win the square and collect that denomination towards your score. Get it wrong and that amount is deducted from your score. Yes, you can go into the negative, so be careful with just guessing.

Play continues until all of the squares are uncovered. This game will contain two (2) rounds like this. The second round uses higher denominations. A third and final round is played with one single question on which the players remaining will wager all or a portion of their score (see final round below).

The Details
1. The first player is picked at random from the pre-registered players.
2. This first player will select a category from those presented, along with a denomination.
3. The host will post the appropriate answer and start the 2 minute timer.
4. Players will post their responses in the form of a question.
5. All responses must be within the 2 minute window.
6. The first correct answer will receive that denomination.
7. All players who post an incorrect response prior to a correct response being posted or prior to the timer running out will have their score reduced by that same denomination. It is possible to have a negative score.
8. The person who places the first correct response, winning that denomination will select the next answer.
9. If no-one has the correct response, the same player continues with a new selection.
10. There will be a 15 minute break between rounds.
11. All answers must be in the form of a question.
12. All site members are invited to play.
13. Only those players with a score higher than zero (0) will be allowed to play the final round.

Daily Double Squares

Within each round there is one special square. When it is selected and uncovered, the host (me again) will announce that it is a Daily Double. Only the person who made the selection may answer this question. Any other person posting a response during this square will be considered always wrong, even when right, and the amount will be deducted from their score.

The person who selected this square is then requested to place a wager on whether they think they will be able to provide the correct question. The amount of the wager can be up to the full amount of their current score, but cannot be less than the amount of the denomination for the square. If the players score is less than the amount of the largest denomination on the current board ($1 for board #1, $2 for board #2), they are allowed to wage up to the highest amount on the board.

Eg. Player on board #1 selects category #2:Quarter, and it is a Daily Double. Their score is currently $0.50. The player must wager at least $0.25, but may wager up to $1.

Responding with the correct question will win that player the amount of the wager. Missing it will cause the entire wage to be deducted from the players score. Play then continues as usual.

Final Round
This round is not easy. One category, one question, no selection required.
All player who have a score of zero (0) or less are thanked for playing and asked to remain silent while the others play this final round. Just for the record, all scores below zero will be adjusted to zero so that no one owes me anything.

The Final round begins with the host (yeah, you guessed it, me) displaying what the final category is to be. All remaining players will then PM (or email) the host with a wager amount of at least $0.01, but no greater than their current score. Like the Daily Double, this wager is based on your perceived ability to provide the correct question.

There will be a 10 minute interval to formulate and submit your wager. Once all of the wagers are received or the time period is over, whichever comes first, the host will uncover the final answer. All players will PM or email the host with their final question. Do NOT post to the forum during this process. Any posts will disqualify the offending player and their score reduced to zero. Any player not submitting a wager will also be disqualified and their score reduced to zero.

The host will notify all when the last player has submitted their response. A time limit of four (4) minutes will be allowed for responses to be sent. Any player who does not respond will be considered to have responded incorrectly.

The only thing left here is the grand unveiling of the wagers and the questions submitted. Oh yes, and the correct question. The scores are then adjusted and the winner is determined.

I like the idea a lot but I'm not sure I could put 96 minutes of straight time (plus daily double time and without the final round) into a game unless it were on a Saturday or something like that. I love trivia type games so the outcome might still be good because we could learn something we didn't know.

I thought a Saturday or Sunday (or both) would be a good day. Thinking early afternoon start.
Maybe do the first round Saturday and the second and final rounds Sunday.

Another option for the final round was to leave it opened for a day or two. I'll send you the category and then question when you PM me and you will have the time limits applied individually. This would leave it opened to allow players to play when they are ready but still maintain the integrity of the game.

Still opened for any ideas.

that could work. I don't think you catch our Aussie friends with this time frame but others could make it. It would be late evening for the Europeans.

I can always reduce it to 5 categories. This would reduce the time a considerable amount. Also, the full time limit may not be reached if someone gives the right answer. Some of the question I doubt will get a correct answer, but I expect most questions will be answered within seconds.

Exactly what I am trying to avoid. However, if they are the only ones to post a good time to play, then it will be the western hemisphere staying up late. Looking to make it available to the most players possible.

Do we call you Alex?

A Loonie is a Canadian dollar coin. Play the game right and I might send you one. I've not settled on an exact prize yet but any coins I was planning on sending out any coins won (mostly circulated, but still nice ones). Answer a Loonie question and you will get one.

And no, no Alex, rik or rick is just fine. Wouldn't want to play without you xshift, so you are asking for Aug 7th, a week from Saturday? Looks like we may have a date. Any objections?

No-one wants to recommend a time? How about from 4pm until 5pm, and finish it the next day?

I have a suggestion to shorten the game. Why not make it 3 columns instead of 6 per round?
I would play when it is best for everyone else.

That would cut it in half, and then I could play two games. Now that sounds like a real good idea. Thanks wheezydog.
