This coin entered my collection in an SEGS slab and I crossed it over to PCGS, sacrificing one grade step in the process. What grade do you think PCGS assigned?

I'll guess AU...but I'm not that great at grading US coins.

I'm going with AU-50. Tons of detail left in the feathers. I'm not any good at being able to tell if a coin is cleaned; was this one cleaned at some point?

IMO AU53. Hard to tell with the photo. If you're upset with it, you can always send it to me. All my 17S are G-VF

Hard to see the detail on the eagle's high points...

gonna go with PCGS AU55.

PCGS doesn't believe it has been cleaned; they wouldn't have given it a grade if they did.

I agree with AU-53. It's definitely seen some circulation imo, but that's a tough coin to find in AU.

I'll also go with AU50. Very nice example of that coin. FAR better than my VG one.

I think PCGS undergraded it. From the photos it seems to have nice detail and luster and I'd say AU.

IMO I would say AU58. There appears to be slight wear on Liberty's breast and the eagles leg.

Well, it was graded AU-50 by SEGS when I bought it. I submitted it for crossover in the SEGS slab and and they down-rated it to XF-45. I suspect they couldn't bring themselves to admit that 2nd-tier grading service SEGS might have been accurate. At least they didn't determine it is a "problem" coin. Maybe if I were to crack it out and send it in raw it would come back as an AU. In any case I like the coin and I agree it's very tough to find upper circulated grade examples of this date.

Thanks for the input!
