What Is A Good Price 1829/7 Capped Bust Half Dollar / CBH In XF Update Bought It

GR58 Bedrock of the Community United States 11951 Posts	Posted 07/29/2010 9:03 pm I have been looking at a XF 1829/7 Bust half, at a local shop. I know it is hard to put a value on a coin with out seeing it, or a picture. I guess I am just hoping there are some experts here that can give me a ballpark figure on what it should sell for. The offer is at $160.00 right now. I looked numismedia shows XF-40 at $245 2010 RedBook shows XF-40 at $200 Again I hope I can get some input from the CBH experts .. as far as .. is this a good deal and should I look for anything on the coin. Generally I would be willing to pay $160 for an uncleaned, attractive, XF-detailed bust half of even the most common date. I would use your best judgment. If it's blotchy, rough, weak, cleaned or unattractive, $160 may not be the best deal afterall. Report this Post to the Staff

It's price in Greysheet XF ($150) is only a touch more than the common dates. Matt noted eye appeal and also being problem free as the big issues. When I looked at it today, what I remember it has a couple small black spots on the cheek. It seemed to be a good strike with good detail. I like going back and taking a second look, I seemed to see more that way. If it still looks good tomorrow .. I will pick it up. Report this Post to the Staff

GR58 Bedrock of the Community United States 11951 Posts	Posted 07/30/2010 4:09 pm I am not sure why on am on the fence with this coin. But I did go ahead and buy it this afternoon. Moe, Thanks for posting pics of your coin. From what I do know about these coins, I am thinking yours was a early die strike. Mine shows the stars stretching to the rims, and the arrow shafts on mine are missing part of the shafts. Yours are a little weak, so I guess this is common to this coin. Here are a couple pics, I guess I really need to set up something better to take pics .. I can see the holding the camera does not let me get very good focus. Report this Post to the Staff

I think even better in hand then in the pics. As for maybe having a older cleaning .. for me it is hard to tell, I looked at this coin several times trying to determine if it may have been cleaned. I don't think I have enough knowledge on these type coins. I do think I can see luster on the coin. I am open to expert opinions on this. The more I look at it the more I like it. If I figure the Overtons correctly, mine appears to be an early O-101 and yours is a O-101a. (This die state is identical to the O-101 die state EXCEPT on the reverse of the O-101a the die has been heavily lapped. This lapping has removed the tail feathers, the feathers at the right side of the shield and a large portion of the arrow shafts at the claws). (From Coinzip.com) Report this Post to the Staff
